Training Programs
Between
1995 and 2000, the LEC has supported a diversity of field ecology courses
for the University of Tulear with funding from the Andrew Lees Trust UK.
The overall objective of the LEC is "to train competent, responsible,
and operational human resources at the regional level that can contribute
to the management of natural ecosystems". To this end, the LEC has
already developed several accredited University level courses and training
programmes. The programme is tailored to provide for the future human
resources needs of national institutions and programmes as well as regional
NGOs. The themes for training include ecology, conservation biology, rural
development, communication and animation, and community based management
of natural resources.
WWF "in
house" technical staff as well as national level consultants assist
the LEC with this activity. Courses are provided, or are in preparation,
